Books
We have a collection of 22000 books.
Fiction books are arranged in alphabetical order by author surname.
Non-fiction books are arranged in subject order. Each book is given a class number on it’s spine according to the subject it covers. Books on the same subject will have the same number and be shelved together, with books on related subjects shelved close by. You will find guides to this arrangement on the walls of the Library.
The Easy Read section is collection of simplified texts for students learning to read or learning English. They are aimed at many levels of readers from easy to advanced.
Newspapers and Journals
We take 5 daily newspapers, 2 weekend papers and approximately 60 journal titles. Current issues may be used in the Library and previous issues may also be borrowed.
Audiovisual
The Library has a collection of DVDs, videos, audio cassettes and audio CDs.
You may use these on the Library equipment or borrow them.
Catalogue
The electronic Library catalogue helps you to find out what items the Library holds and where an item will be shelved. You may search for a specific title or author, or for items on a particular subject. The class number will show where the items will be shelved.
Photocopiers
There is 1 black and white copier and 1 colour copier, for use on a self-service basis. These are operated by copy cards which you can purchase at the counter. You should make sure that your copying complies with the copyright regulations displayed by the copiers.
Computers
You can use the Library computers to find information for your studies. We have a number of useful subscription services that you can access: Infotrac, SCRAN and KnowUK. You may also search for information on the Internet.
Study Spaces
There are over 100 reader places in the Library, including a Quiet Study Area and group study tables. Please be aware that other students are working, keep noise to a minimum and switch off mobile phones before entering the Library.
